Afternoon Drive (stream of consciousness writing 17)

Driving the back roads today
Intentionally lost in the woods
Of Sumner County
I barreled down
A small two lane
Faster than
The recommended speed
I was killing time
And the road was long
And unending
But when I turned around
And drove back
The other way
Toward the main road
From where I had
Turned off
The journey did not seem
As long as it had before
When I was driving west
Toward the golden arms
Of the resting afternoon sun
