Until the Light is Gone

Until the Light is Gone
Let me memorize
The proportions
Of my silhouette
On the fierce,
Summer concrete.
Until the light is gone
Allow me to keep growing
Up as I would have done
Under the noonday sun.
Until the light is gone
Let me weep
And so water
The chapped ground
And let the weeds grow
While we hide from the night.
Until the light is gone
Let me make my bombs
And drop them carelessly
About my room,
The neighborhood,
The greater metropolitan areas,
To invoke the sun
Once it is gone.
But really just let me hide,
Be slowly covered,
By the trembling,
Encroaching shadow
Under which I will sleep
And in whose absence
I will wake
A few millimeters taller.
