Hymnal

Don't read too much into this
You won't understand how
The words are bound,
Held together by my spine.
And every phrase is archaic-
Something you pretend to feel
As you fumble the noise
From your lips-
Enough is enough.
I am an abandoned cathedral.
Let kingdom come,
And sweep me clean
Of cobwebs and dust
In my skeleton.
Your voice cannot be heard
With your head in the ground.
That's not the way to tend a garden.
I don't give a damn
About your vices.
I don't give a damn
About your coin purse.
I just don't give a damn.
Please don't read this.
Stop your eyes now.
Look away and keep your breath
Returning to you
Circuitously.
I don't give a damn
About your scientific method
Or your love-me-love-me-nots.
It's all painted grass and manicures
To help us all feel better
About where we are going
When the money runs out
And the trash reclaims the streets.
My spine is useless
From years of sitting still.
Because I didn't give a damn.
